Bookseller Rating and Completion

Bookseller Ratings are based on your order completion rate. Completion is calculated in the following manner:

Completion Rate = (Total Number of Order Items – Unfulfilled Order Items – Returned Order Items) / Total Number of Order Items

For example, if you had a total of 75 orders, rejected three of them and had two returns, your completion rate would be 93%.

(75 - 3 - 2) = 70 / 75 = 93% Completion

The Completion Rate percentages are translated into a 5-star Bookseller Rating system, as follows:

 Completion Rate  Star Rating

 95 - 100%

 *****

 85 - 94%

 ****

 70 - 84%

 ***

 60 - 69%

 **

 0 - 59%

Please note that the completion rating that is displayed online is based on the orders you have received in the previous six months.

The following cancellations and returns are not included in your Completion Rating:

  • "Buyer does not want item" returns.
  • Partial refunds.
  • Incomplete sales (Seller-direct orders where you don't receive payment from the buyer.)
  • Buyer cancels before shipping.
  • Orders rejected due to buyer rejection of a request for extra charges.

Your displayed rating will reflect your actual completion rate for the orders received during the rating period, regardless of the number of orders received, with the following two exceptions:

- New booksellers will default to a 4 star rating until they've received 4 orders, after which time the displayed rating will reflect the seller's actual completion rate for the rating period.

- Existing sellers who receive 0 orders during the six month period will also default to 4 stars until they receive an order.

Please note: The AbeBooks Performance Standards state that booksellers are required to maintain a minimum completion rate of 85%. Booksellers who consistently maintain a Completion rate below 85% may have their AbeBooks account suspended or closed at our discretion.

Important: All refunds and returns must be processed through the AbeBooks system and all refunds must be provided to the buyer by the same payment method originally used to pay for the order. Any attempt to manipulate Return and/or Completion rates by issuing refunds outside the Abebooks system, and/or by a method other than the buyer's original payment method, is considered a serious violation of AbeBooks Policy.
