Partial Refunds

You can easily initiate a partial return on an item if you'd like to refund the buyer either a portion of the book price, the shipping price, or both.

To issue a partial refund:

  1. [Sign on] to your AbeBooks account with your email address and password.

  2. Click [View and Process Orders] in the 'My Sales' section of the Menu.

  3. On the Order List screen, enter the AbeBooks Order Number and click [List Orders]. 

  4. Click [Request a Refund] for the book that requires a refund. 

  5. Select [Partial Refund] from the drop-down list. You can also add comments for the buyer. The amount to be refunded will be entered on the next screen.

  6. Click the [Initiate Return/Refund] button. 

  7. Enter the amount of the refund in the appropriate field (either for shipping or book price or both).

  8. Click [Complete Return/Refund]. A confirmation screen will appear, letting you know the refund has been completed.

Important Notes:

• The amount of a partial refund cannot exceed 75% of the book price.

• Since the minimum book price on AbeBooks is US $1.00, a partial refund cannot be issued on a book priced at US $1.00.

• Refund of shipping charge cannot exceed the original shipping charge (including extra or reduced prices).

• Commission and processing fees are not refunded for partial refunds.

• If a full refund is required after a partial refund has already been issued, please contact Customer Support for assistance.
