Extremely informative text about the culture, indigenous peoples and geography of many countries / civilisations, including: Polynesian, Papuan, Australian, Malay, African, Egyptian, Kaffir, Hottentots and Negro. Nice maroon coloured binding blind embossed and some gilt and black infilled. Gilt edges on three sides. There are versions of this book that appeared in volumes however this does not have a volume number and in fact there is no indication that it was a series.There is an insert in front of one of the prelims stating that this book was for subscription only and not on general release. The plates were originally mounted within the text and at some point they have been removed and remounted at the start of the book. Corners and top / bottom of spine worn, some splitting to backstrip, slightly grubby boards. Top of front hinge cracked. Minor interior browning.
