(20) pp. with reproductions of antarctic documents, and having 10 mounted orig. envelopes with stamps and stamped by the different postoffices visited at the antarctic bases and research stations operated by Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Chile, New Zealand, Soviet Union and the United States. The stamps are from the respective countries postoffices at their research stations. The tourism industry to tha Antarctic began in the late 1950s with Chile and Argentina taking more than 500 fare-paying passengers to the South Shetland Islands. The first expedition to Antarctica with travellers was in 1966 and was lead by Lars Eric Lindblad. The modern expedition cruise industry was born shortly after, in 1969, when Lindblad built the first expedition ship MS Explorer.
