History: Matthäus Merian the Elder (1593-1650) is probably the most famous engravers in art history. He studied in France, Germany and the Netherlands. In1624 he took over the publishing house of his father-in-law de Bry after his death in Frankfurt, Germany. who was also famous engraver and etcher.
