About this Item

1655 Famiano Strada History of DUTCH Revolt Charles V Holy Roman Empire WARS Illustrated Portrait Engravings / None Worldwide Famiano Strada (1572 1649) was a Jesuit priest, historian, and moralist. Charles V (1500 1558), also known as Charles I of Spain, was Duke of Burgundy and ruler of the Netherlands from 1506, ruler of the Spanish Empire from 1516 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1519, until he voluntarily stepped down from these and other positions. Alexander Farnese (1545 1592) was Duke of Parma, Piacenza and Castro from 1586 to 1592, and Governor of the Spanish Netherlands from 1578 to 1592. The Dutch Revolt (1566 or 1568 1648) was the successful revolt of the northern, largely Protestant Seven Provinces of the Low Countries against the rule of the Roman Catholic King Philip II of Spain, who had inherited the region (Seventeen Provinces) from the defunct Duchy of Burgundy.
