FROM THE FOUR WINDS, by JOHN SINJOHN (pseudonym of JOHN GALSWORTHY). John Galsworthy's first book. Published by T. Fisher Unwin, London, 1897. First Edition. Bibliographically known to have been printed in an edition of only 500 copies. Reportedly, Galsworthy paid for the cost of printing an edition of 500 copies and agreed to share in the profits with the publisher. But the book did not sell and Galsworthy had all remaining copies destroyed and never allowed it to be reprinted. Hardcovers, no dustjacket as issued, green cloth covered boards, 5.5x 7.5", 246 pages. Condition: The covers are heavily shelf-rubbed, scraped and scratched, have wear at their corners and spine ends, and the spine gilt has mostly worn away; nonetheless the covers remain solid and are still doing their job well. Internally nice, there is some offsetting to the endpapers, an age spot or two and a bit of wear here and there, overall the inner pages remain tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A complete, solid copy, with well-worn covers. SCARCE FIRST EDITION of GALSWORTHY'S FIRST BOOK. Bookseller Inventory # 000328
