Description:

THE TREMBLING OF THE VEIL, by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS. Published by T. WERNER LAURIE, LONDON, 1922. Privately Printed for Subscribers Only. Printed at the Duniden Press, Edinburgh. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. From the Signature / Limitation page: "This edition consists of one thousand copies numbered and signed. This is No. 870. HAND SIGNED by W. B. YEATS on the Signature / Limitation page. Rare Signed Limited Edition. Hardcovers, dustjacket, paper covered spine (simulated vellum) and cloth covered boards, paper title label on the spine, 5.5x9". Pagination vii, 247; [1]; frontispiece portrait of Yeats by Charles Shannon. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of W.B. Yeats. Book Condition is VERY GOOD: Spine slightly sunned, spine ends have some wear, boards have some shelf rubbing, covers still sturdy and attractive. There is a small bookplate of the Noted Book Collector ALBERT PARSONS SACHS on the front pastedown. Internally, the pages are just very lightly used and still tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A solid, very nice copy. Dustjacket Condition is POOR: the spine is detached (split at both the front and rear folds), chipped at the ends, and sunned / darkened; the front and rear panels are chipped along their top edge, starting to split at the flap folds, have some chips along the flap folds, and have some sunning. The dj is now held together in a dustjacket protector. A lovely copy of this SCARCE SIGNED LIMITED EDITION, in a present but piecemeal and raggedy dustjacket. William Butler Yeats was perhaps the greatest poet of the late 19th and early 20th century. His signature is like magic. About William Butler Yeats (from Wikipedia): ****** William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 ¿ 28 January 1939) was an Irish poet and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. A pillar of both the Irish and British literary establishments, in his later years he served as an Irish Senator for two terms. Yeats was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival and, along with Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn, and others, founded the Abbey Theatre, where he served as its chief during its early years. In 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature as the first Irishman so honored for what the Nobel Committee described as "inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation." Yeats is generally considered one of the few writers who completed their greatest works after being awarded the Nobel Prize.******. Bookseller Inventory #
