Facsimile edition of The Defence of Poesie by Sir Phillip Sydney in the original publisher's paper wrapped hardback boards and translucent unclipped dust wrapper.First thus of Douglas's facsimile based on the copy held in the British Museum first published in 1595.The 'Defence of Poetry' is considered one of the first pieces of literary criticism.Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpapers dated 1929. In the original publisher's paper wrapped hardcover boards and translucent dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. The dust wrapper is slightly worn to the extremities and has some slight discolouration. To the binding, there is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound.
