About this Item

Oblong quarto. Bolted black leather with lettering in green on front cover "1929 H.P.C. Convention, Berlin, January 27 and 28, 1930." Unique photo-album and scrapbook documenting the H.P.C. (One Hundred Percent Club) convention which was held in Berlin in 1930. The organization was introduced by Computing-Tabulating-Recording Co. in the mid-nineteen-twenties to reward sales personnel who met their annual quotas. In 1924 the company changed its name to IBM (International Business Machines Corporation). To this day, every year IBM recognizes the sales representatives who have achieved or exceeded their sales quota by inducting them into the club. Album contains 73 original mounted b/w photographs showing the participants arriving in Berlin and at various events, etc. Other ephemera in the album include original photographs of performances, 12 Berlin postcards, situation map where various H.P.C. events took place, menu of the dinner held at the Hotel Kaiserhof, song lyrics (specifically written for the event), various programs, typewritten dialogue of a sketch, pantomime and play, participant's booklet in German and English with program & miscellaneous information, blank leaves in rear for personal notes, as well as a list of the members of the club. Foreword in booklet reads: "Hundred Percenters, we congratulate you. You are the leaders in the greatest year in the Company's history. Your efforts were largely responsible for 1929's splendid record. You have earned this trip and all the education and pleasure that it holds. We sincerely hope that it will prove both pleasant and profitable to you." Large red heart with white lettering "It Pays" tipped-in on first leaf. The hearts were worn by certain members during the convention as seen in one photograph. Three color posters of "The Overseas NCR" by The National Cash Register Company, Dayton, Ohio, laid-in. The January 1930 one shows officers of the 1919 H.P.C. Club., the other two are titled "Welcome to Berlin 1929 Hundred per centers!", and "London in 1931." Some staining, scuffing and minor age wear on binding, front board bowed. Sporadic finger smudges on margins of few plates. Photographs, posters and ephemera in overall very good condition.
