Description:

ORIGINAL PRELIMINARY SHOOTING SCRIPT for "DRACULA". Screenplay by Jim Hart. Shooting Script "Prepared by" F. Coppola, M. Ballhaus, D. Ferretti. Film Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins and Keanu Reeves. Preliminary Shooting Script. Dated July 9, 1991. Ink stamp on the title-page / cover page states: "RECEIVED / JULY 10 1991 / COLUMBIA STORY DEPT." A second ink stamp on the title-page / cover page contains a lot of legalese from Columbia Pictures, including the statement "Copying or Reproduction of This Material. is Prohibited". "DRACULA" was released by Columbia Pictures on November 13, 1992, one year and four months after the date of this Preliminary Shooting Script. There were probably substantial changes between this script and the final film, making this early version somewhat unique. Original early shooting script, with actual ink stamps of Columbia Pictures and the printed information "July 9, 1991 / From Zoetrope Studios", on the title-page. Pages are photocopied on 8.5x11" paper (photocopying was, and still is, how original copies of a draft script were quickly produced and distributed to film producers, agents, directors, and others involved in a motion picture production), pages are 3-hole punched at the left margin, bound with 2 brass brads, printed on one side only, 105 pages plus a title / cover page. GOOD CONDITION. Written in black marker on the side page edges is "DRACULA JULY '91"; the front cover has some coffee drops, light coffee stains, a few small holes, a torn corner tip, and creases from handling and use; both the title page and last page are worn around the brads; the first few pages are creased at the bottom corner and have some light edge staining; otherwise the pages are complete, bright, clean and unmarked. This Original Early Shooting Script is SCARCE. It is my only copy, and the only copy I have ever seen. About the 1992 Film DRACULA (from Wikipedia): ******Bram Stoker's Dracula is a 1992 American horror film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. It stars Gary Oldman as Count Dracula, Winona Ryder as Mina Harker, Anthony Hopkins as Professor Abraham Van Helsing, and Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker. Bram Stoker's Dracula was greeted by a generally positive critical reception and was a box office hit. Its score was composed by Wojciech Kilar and featured "Love Song for a Vampire" by Annie Lennox, which became an international hit, as the closing credits theme. Ryder initially brought the script (written by James V. Hart) to the attention of Coppola. The director had agreed to meet with her so the two could clear the air after her late withdrawal from The Godfather Part III caused production delays on that film and led her to believe Coppola disliked her. Coppola was attracted to the sensual elements of the screenplay and said that he wanted portions of the picture to resemble an "erotic dream". The film was a financial success. The film opened at #1 at the box office with $30,521,679. It became a box office hit, grossing $82,522,790 in North America and another $133,339,902 Internationally, for a total worldwide gross of $215,862,692. Coppola spent most of the 1980s trying to recover from his financially disastrous 1982 film "One From The Heart". Most of the films he made in the 1980s were not successful, or just mildly so. In 1990 he directed "Godfather 3", but even that was not enough to save his Zoetrope Studios. In 1991 Zoetrope Studios and Coppola filed for bankruptcy. Zoetrope emerged from bankruptcy as a shell of its former self, and under a new name, "American Zoetrope" and was no longer allowed to use the name "Zoetrope Studios". (Interesting to note that this July 10, 1991 "Preliminary Shooting Script" is "From ZOETROPE STUDIOS", as shown on the title-page / cover page.)******. Bookseller Inventory #
