Vintage original 27 x 41" (68 x 102 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. Rock Hudson, Barbara Rush, Gregg Palmer, Rex Reason, dir: Douglas Sirk; Universal. Appreciation of Douglas Sirk's work as an auteur started after his retirement from Hollywood film-making in 1959. The films were high melodrama with the characters viewing themselves differently than the audience perceives them. He is seen as having dissected the conformist 1950s American society in his works. This story concerned the two sons of peacemaking Chief Cochise: one wanting to continue in peace, the other wanting to make war. Remarkably, Sirk considered this his favorite American work, because he always wanted to make a Western. It also offered him the playground of filming in 3-D, and that -- along with its beefcake image of Rock Hudson -- makes this poster a real winner. On linen, with normal light touch-up to address fold-lines and minor edge wear. VERY GOOD. Bookseller Inventory #
