About this Item

VERY GOOD+ copy of the extremely scarce Seabees "Cruise Book, "one of perhaps 1,200 copies originally produced in 1945 or 1946 by the US Navy as a "cruise book" for a Navy construction battalion identified as 31st US Naval Construction Battalion or "31st Seabees." It was printed by The Comet Press at 200 Varick St. in New York City. Profusely illustrated with near 600 b&w photographs, maps and illustrations, plus 6 two-color heavy stock illustrated bound inserts themed to a chapter, and lavish two-color map themed endpapers. A clean, well bound copy. Color USNCB insignia affixed to title page but book is otherwise totally unmarked. Pages clean and crisp with no tears or creases. Slight offsetting to the map-printed endpapers. Bound in rich burgundy leatherette, with blind stamping and sumptuous gold embossing on the front cover. Cover has some wear: rubbing and slight fraying at spine ends and corners; front corners bumped. Light white spotting to back cover. Binding is very good. Minor split starting between one set of gatherings, but binding is nevertheless secure and intact. 9 x 12"; 182 pages including 2-color art pages Size: 4to. Bookseller Inventory # 004281
