About this title

Synopsis:

An account of the crimes of Ervil LeBaron describes how the self-proclaimed prophet used outlawed Mormon tenets of polygamy and blood atonement to purge the Mormon church of many members. 17,500 first printing. National ad/promo. Tour.

From Library Journal:

According to Mormon tenets, members of the Mormon community who don't follow the policies of the elders must pay for their sin by "spilling blood." In this account of what investigative reporter Anderson believes to be "blood atonements" among members of a Mormon cult, Ervile LeBaron, who called himself the "One Mighty and Strong Prophet," created a hit list of people who must "spill blood." His thirst for power was so great that even members of his own family were made to atone for alleged sins. His brother was the first to go. After LeBaron's death, his malevolent influence reached beyond the grave when his three sons carried out his last wishes. At precisely 4:00 p.m. on a June day in 1988, the LeBarons executed four victims at three different sites. Mormon believers may be offended by the discrepancies of the faith that Anderson describes. He seems to be convinced that most Mormons are brain-washed and hypocritical. For true-crime collections.
