The tunnel under the Confederate lines at Petersburg was dug by the Pennsylvania coal miners of the 48th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. Most of the regiment was from Schuylkill Couny, Pennsylvania. Although the outocome of teh battle was not successful for the Union Army teh tunnel was an engineering marvel. Fine copy of the first edition.
