About this title:

Synopsis: Help! She s not breathing! Call 9-1-1! Within minutes, help has arrived. And this scenario is repeated, day after day, without fail. Emergency medical professionals, firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, the military whoever is required will be on the scene.

These everyday heroes are sometimes victims themselves of the stress of constantly attending disasters, especially those involving children; or, on occasion, members of their own families. Post-traumatic stress is a common ailment.

In this book, Vali Stone gives a voice to some of these 9-1-1 responders. In these true stories, we learn about their hopes and fears, their worst moments, and their strangest experiences.

About the Author: Vali Stone resides in Newmarket, Ontario, with her husband, Paul, a constable with the Toronto Police Services. They have two children, Michelle and Trevor.

Vali is the author of Cops Don t Cry, a book of help and hope for police families that has become a national best seller. She has also published poetry in Canada, the United States, and Australia, and has written a family lifestyle column for Metroland newspapers as well as numerous freelance articles for magazines.

She has won the In Celebration of Women Author Award for York Region in 2003 and was nominated for the Pursuing Character through the Arts award for York Region in April 2010.

Vali is the founder of the Words Alive literary Festival in York Region and the Words Alive Open Mic.

She is a faculty member at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, where she teaches Communications and Oral Presentations, and where she created a course in Visual Analysis.

Vali has worked extensively with police spouses to help them better understand the dynamics of the police family lifestyle through both private and group discussions.
