A small child awakens, slips out of bed, tiptoes to the window, and observes how the familiar things of the day look different at night. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 1-- During the night a little girl awakens, goes to her window, and considers the world outside. Satisfied with her look at a tree, a cat, and the clouds across the moon, she returns to her warm bed to sleep. Shipton's poetic text uses simple, cumulative elements and a steady but unobtrusive rhythm. The sense of comfort he creates is underscored by the muted tones of Scriven's impressionistic watercolors. Her use of moonlight and shadow helps viewers see the outdoor world they might encounter if they, too, awoke. A reassuring book that should find a bedtime audience. --Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN
