9780002239851: Everville: The Second Book of the Art

In 1845 the pioneers pushed across the American Mid-West. In the mountains, one group was overtaken by disaster, wiped out by avalanche - all except one girl, who found a door into another dimension. She found herself on the shores of Quiddity, the sea of dreams.

About the Author:

Clive Barker is the bestselling author of twenty-two books, including the New York Times bestsellers Abarat; Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War; and The Thief of Always. He is also an acclaimed painter, film producer, and director. For twelve years Mr. Barker has been working on a vast array of paintings to illuminate the text of The Books of Abarat, more than one hundred and twenty-five of which can be found within this volume.

Mr. Barker lives in California. He shares his house with seven dogs, three cockatiels, several undomesticated geckoes, an African gray parrot called Smokey, and a yellow-headed Amazon parrot called Malingo.

From AudioFile:

It may be the abridgment, but this attempt at horror is more fatiguing than frightening. Barker's story goes in various directions with little regard for logic or character motivation. Even experienced narrator John Glover can't do much with Barker's banal dialogue. D.A.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
