A decade has now passed since the Greenwich murders which launched the career of young John Coffin as a policeman. Sergeant now, he has just bought a house in Mouncy Street in South East London, and with it, it appears, a body - in fact, more than one body... Coffin's investigation into the case puts him in contact with the lively local ragtrade, but in the heady atmosphere of the Swinging Sixties no-one could be prepared for the shocking climax to the story of the murders in Mouncy Street...

Gwendoline Butler writes under her own name and the pseudonym Jennie Melville. Educated at Haberdashers, she read history at Oxford, and later married Dr. Lionel Butler, Principal of Royal Holloway College. She has one daughter. She is a winner of the Crime Writers’ Association’s Silver Dagger Award. She was also selected as being one of the top two hundred crime writers in the world by The London Times. She lives in Surrey, England. From AudioFile:
Butler introduces her charming Detective Inspector John Coffin and a less well-known part of London, the Southeast area. Coffin is pleased when he finally can purchase his own home, only to have workmen discover a body as they refurbish the place. Despite it not being his own case, he has great personal interest in it. When he meets suspects and victims' families, he quickly develops emotional attachments. Narrator Phil Garner skillfully understates his delivery as bodies continue to be discovered amid the sex and drug culture of London's "Swinging Sixties." Since the story is bleak and detailed, Garner adds a smooth flow to Butler's work. An excellent choice for those who prefer a mystery that is out of the ordinary.
