9780006385837: Martial Artist Way

The world is beginning to discover what martial arts enthusiasts have always known: martial arts are not simply the domain of those interested in self defense or physical fitness, but are important tools in creating true harmony between mind and body. The discipline and self-knowledge gained in martial arts training translate easily into many aspects ofour lives: martial artists soon discover benefits of newfound self-confidence, improved health and even a more serene and focused outlook.Sifu Glenn Doyle, who is three-time Canadian Kung-Fu champion and the personal martial arts instructor to figure skating champion Elvis Stojko, knows and understands the power of martial arts. The Martial Artist’s Way is Glen’s blend of practical teaching, thoughtful insight and inspired motivation-including the secrets of his training success with Elvis Stojko-a guide that shows how anyone can use martial arts training and discipline to enhance both spiritual and physical well-being.Written in a friendly, concise style, The Martial Artist’s Way covers a wide range of topics, delivering invaluable advice and tips. From the importance of taking the time to find your own style and school, to understanding the rules of the street and using the killer instinct, The Martial Artist’s Way delivers a powerful one-two kick of classical theory and street-wise strategies. A thorough discussion of training - the single most important element in the martial arts journey - as well as Glenn’s experiences with competitive martial arts, are also included. Finally, Glen explores how martial arts training can be used to improve agility, accuracy and strength in playing many other sports.

A guide that will be especially invaluable to novices, The Martial Artist’s Way will also help intermediate and accomplished martial artists gain a higher level of understanding and a fresh, new perspective on their art.
