She returned to the US to complete research on her family background that found it's outlet in her book, The Dakota Peoples. She has also written fiction, with her first novel published in 1991. In the UK, Palmer lectured on Native American culture around the country. In the US, she has worked as a reporter. She became a permitted wildlife rehabilitator, taking care of sick and wounded animals, in Kansas, Florida and New Mexico, thus pursuing her two loves, writing and wildlife. Now she lives in Colorado where she writes fiction and hopes to continue her work with animals.Review:
From Native American legends to the ancient Egyptian and Celtic lore, animals and the behaviorial traits they personify have long fascinated human beings. Information from the mystical to the scientific is included.... The book conveniently lists animals alphabetically.
Palmer is an informative, entertaining writer and solid researcher. This intriguing book should have crossover appeal for those interested in disciplines ranging from biology and anthropology to art and history and spiritual traditions, as well as animal lovers.
