From the forward: Welcome to Florence! This guidebook has been planned for those who visit Florence for the first time and for those who, having already tasted her charming beauty, want to revive the impression of their first visit. It is not a handbook for specialists in art and history, but it will give enough information for the visitor to saunter about freely and enjoy in the best way the most interesting monuments and other noticeableplaces. In the first pages the visitor will find a short outline of Florentine history with the little information which is absolutely necessary to understand the historical meaning of the monuments of some interest. There are also some notes on the most important Florentine traditions and festivals which form an essential part of the surviving folklore of the town. The large number of illustrations included in this guidebook will enable the visitor to have before their eyes in any moment the highlights of the art and architecture contained in Florence. We think these illustrations, besides making the book much more pleasant, will enable the visitor to have a reference source for any comparison and to make, as it were, cross-references to what they are admiring in their sightseeing.
