Why is Badger in a bad mood? His friends come together to find out in this lovable, acclaimed picture book.
Badger's down in the dumps. Not even visits from his friends, Mole, Squirrel, and Rabbit, can cheer him up. Then Mole comes up with a plan to show Badger how loved and appreciated he is. A big Awards Ceremony is held -- and Badger is named "Most Loved No Matter What His Mood." Soon Badger's bad mood is gone -- and he's learned the importance of friends!

Badger is in a bad mood. He won't see or talk to anyone. The animals are at a loss without him -- who will help with holiday arrangements, give advice and support, take them fishing? Only Mole has the sensitivity to see what is wrong. He secretly organises an award ceremony at which all the animals receive a certificate of achievement. But the real climax of the celebrations is when Badger receives the best award of all.Review:
Oram's friendly woodland community reinforces a message that bears repeating. Her characters are expressive and concerned without being sappy, and her story makes room for throwaway jokes (Miss Snail turns out to be fond of slow dancing, while Frog is known for his gallant courting). Varley's breezy ink-and-watercolor paintings, rendered in a pale, earthy palette, create a convincing whole world for Oram's sweet animals. Smartly clad in their timeless Sunday best, they exude charm and personality. Their cozy environs, like the story, make readers utterly welcome.

Told with wit and affection, this charming tale reminds us that everyone needs to be appreciated and that friendship, support, and love are great healers. Varley's delicate, detailed watercolors picture an endearing animal ensemble cast, from accordion-playing Bat to the always-dignified Badger himself. Extremely appealing characters combine with a message all ages can relate to for a timeless and irresistible story.
"This is a lovely story about caring and thinking about others -- and friendship."

"This insightful story is sure to be loved by parents and teachers. Charming!"
