"Envy is the unpleasant feeling of wanting what another person has and feeling bad that you don't have it." With that simple definition and explication of Grimm's fairy tale, psychotherapist Cohen attempts to elucidate every facet of this destructive emotion. Causes, sources, manifestations, effects, and positive and negative coping mechanisms are covered superficially. The information appears to be based on personal and clients' experiences and on interviews with "successful" women such as Billie Jean King, Julia Child, and Sharon Percy Rockefeller. While this book is not the definitive study of envy, the popularity of fairy tale syndrome books will probably create a demand for it in public libraries.Florence Scarinci, Nassau Community College Library, Garden City, N.Y.
