Nelson Lee Novick, M.D., FACP, FAAD is Associate Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC and Clinic Chief within the Center's Dermatology Clinic. He has written widely in his fields of internal medicine, dermatology and cosmetic dermatology both for medical journals and consumer magazines and serves as an Editorial Advisor for Executive Health's Good Health Report and consultant and by-line author for WebMd.com. He has a private practice in New York City. From Library Journal:
For millions, the advent of spring brings thoughts of allergy prevention and treatment. Dermatologist Novick ( Super Skin , LJ 10/15/88; Baby Skin , LJ 11/1/91) here provides basic information on allergies, allergy prevention, and treatment options. He also discusses the immune system, antihistamines, rhinitis, and asthma. His chapters on allergens in homes, on pets, and in food are reminders that vigilance is required. Novick also offers good advice on moldproofing a home. Environmental allergies as well as makeup and medication choices are considered, and two appendixes provide information on allergy tests and medications. Despite this wealth of information, the book has some drawbacks. Novick fails to give citations from the medical journals he mentions. A checklist of inciting agents for rhinitis would have been helpful as would a listing of predisposing factors leading to sinusitis (e.g., swimming, diving, cigarette smoke, and dental extractions). Finally, there is neither a glossary nor a listing of allergy associations. An optional purchase. (Index not seen.)-- Catherine Greene, Bethesda Memorial Hosp. Lib., Boynton Beach, Fla.
