From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2 Children will delight in this whimsical tale about Sidney and his three monster buddies, Slimey Green, Big Oaf, and Little Snout. These four beasts, whose names are more frightening than their looks, are the nighttime imaginings of a bespectacled little boy named Morton. One morning, Morton awakens to find himself the mediator between Sidney and his three closet companions who no longer want to share the closet with Sidney. Morton and Sidney investigate a number of other places where Sidney could stay. Eventually, they scare up an idea that allows Sidney to rejoin his companions in the closet, returning everything to normal by nightfall. The cartoonish illustrations, rendered in watercolor and pen and ink, humorously reflect the message of the text. Demarest sets the stage for this story with the details he includes in his first few illustrations, which create an atmosphere into which four, clumsy, shy, pastel monsters can creep unobtrusively and make observers laugh. A spirited companion to such titles as Mercer Mayer's There's a Nightmare in My Closet (Dial, 1968), Morton and Sidney will add a humorous dimension to a young child's often encountered experiences with imagined monsters, nightmares, and the like.Jennifer Smith, Northern Kentucky University , Highland Heights

From Publishers Weekly:

Where do you hide a six-foot-tall, hairy pink monster with green horns named Sidney? That's the question the boy Morton faces when the other monsters in his closet refuse to let Sidney keep living with them. Sidney and Morton cast about for a solution, but Sidney just won't fit under an armchair or in a laundry basket. Finally, the pair decide to dress up as a truly terrible monster, who makes the others (Slimey Green, Big Oaf and Little Snout) grateful to have Sidney back. Goofy fun, but with an old-fashioned message: think twice before rejecting somethingwhat takes its place may be worse. Demarest offers quirky line-and-wash illustrations that do justice to his frolicsome tale. Ages 3-7.
