Paula Fox was born in New York City in 1923 and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. When she was eight she moved to a Cuban plantation and stayed for two years. Before and after Cuba, she seldom lived anyplace longer than a year or so. She is the author of several books for adults among which are DESPERATE CHARACTERS: A NOVEL and BORROWED FINERY: A MEMOIR. Her many books for children include the Newbery Award winning novel, THE SLAVE DANCER.
Paula Fox was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for her body of work. Two of her best-known books are The Slave Dancer (a Newbery Medal winner) and One-Eyed Cat (a Newbery Honor Book). She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
