PreSchool-Grade 2?The bed bouncers of the title bounce so long and so high that they launch themselves into outer space. There they meet bed bouncers from around the world, who join in a screaming, hollering orbit of the Earth below. Soon they are back home, where a voice from outside the bedroom but definitely inside the stratosphere calls out for them to stop jumping on the bed. With a quick peep, they crawl back under the covers and make believe they're sleeping. The multiculturalism of this fantasy is noteworthy?bed bouncers come in all colors and sizes. Even more unusual is the illustrative technique, reminiscent of Ezra Jack Keats's work, with collages in different textures and designs. Here, the variety of papers is even wider, with some that look like fabric-softener sheets and one that is clearly a collection of international postage stamps. Like Keats, Knutson uses pen highlights to mark facial features and folds in the blankets. These papers are cut, never torn, so the edges are particularly firm and distinct. A great bedtime story that rollicks along, as does anyone who gives a bed a good bounce.?Ruth K. MacDonald, Bay Path College, Longmeadow, MA

Ages 2^-5. With bright collage illustrations, this joyful rhyme combines an energetic physical beat with a fantasy about flying through space. A sister and brother bounce and jounce on their beds; they vault, and they leap right through the ceiling to parade through space. They tickle the stars and swing on the moon; they do five rotating cannonball dives. They also trade pillows with bouncers from all different lands, "all ages and sizes and colors of skin." The message of universal connections grows right from the action. The wild pictures show what can happen when you take the risk, toss off the covers, and fly through the air. Hazel Rochman
