From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 3 A pleasant yet somehow lackluster nonsense fantasy story concerning people and monsters. The text itself offers rather ho-hum lines such as: ``Monsters will always play with you, even when it's no fun for them,'' ``Parades are terrific when you are sitting on top of a monster,'' and ``the best thing about monsters is they aren't afraid of the dark and will keep you company long after everyone else has gone to sleep.'' Each and every event cited is illustrated with pastel colored pencil drawings of monsters and people interacting. While Yalowitz' lively, comically bizarre illustrations may be enjoyed and appreciated by some children, the vast majority will find them to be too angular and perhaps even harsh. Trendy illustrations coupled with a text that lacks a central focus does not make this monster title a priority purchase. J. J. Votapka, East Norwich Public Library, Oyster Bay, N.Y.

From Publishers Weekly:

A boy, in red polka-dot pajamas or shorts and a T-shirt with stars, gives a first-person account of his unusual circle of friends. They are monsterspudgy or long-limbed, some too large for the house, some small enough for a bureau drawer, with horns or cones on their heads or with snorkles for noses. Good buddies to have around, they can both get kites into the air and untangle them from trees. Need company when the lights go out? Want someone to whisk away broccoli at dinnertime? The monsters do seem pretty handy, and the narrator's case is a convincing one. Colored-pencil drawings show a boy almost as unusual-looking as his pals. The telling is deliberately dry and the pictures deliver a pack of whimsical monsters who will find new fans among readers. Ages 4-7.
