Ages 4-8. "Time to hit the beach!" Hobart the dragon declares to his dragon pack when all "the good gold is gone," most of "the knights have been beaten and eaten," and fire breathing just gives him a stomachache. But even the beach gets boring after several hundred years, so (beset by a bad case of the munchies) the dragons launch a snack attack into the world, where they discover Mr. Melon's Burger Hut with his house special, Hutburgers. Fortunately, Mr. Melon's fast-food establishment accepts piles of gold, and the dragons have a "full-blown, fantastic, fanatic food festival." Unfortunately, after only three weeks, the dragons run out of gold. "How Burger Hut Became Hobart Hut" or "Where Did All the Dragons Go?"--either way this terribly tongue-in-cheek tale is wild and wacky and wonderful. Outrageous text that doesn't miss a beat is combined with bold and brightly colored wash illustrations packed with comical asides and delinquent dragon antics. A definite winner that dragon lovers will find delectably delicious! Annie AyresFrom Publishers Weekly:
Energetic, almost manic watercolors don't redeem an essentially inane and prolix tale, a first effort from Tanis and Grooters. A pack of winged dragons meanders from age to age, finally reaching the present. At this point the dragons, struck by "the munchies," develop an almost insatiable appetite for the fare from a fast-food joint known as Burger Hut. The authors ramble on through a belabored Conflict (how will the dragons pay their tab after they run out of gold pieces?) and Resolution (they take jobs at Burger Hut, frying the food with their own fiery breath). Junk food. Ages 4-7. Children's BOMC selection.
