Kindergarten-Grade 2-- A young girl and her family camp at Scrabble Creek, where all goes well until she has to walk in the dark to the bunkhouse to sleep with the rest of the older children. She eventually conquers her fears and enjoys being one of the big kids. The watercolor illustrations effectively capture the feeling of camping, creeks, and flashlights making eerie patterns against a dark screen door. The text is written in the first person and is a little unchildlike in spots, but not to the point of distraction. Youngsters who like to camp and those who are afraid of the dark will readily identify. --Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY
