Reviews

For those libraries on a fixed reference budget or with space considerations, this may be the answer. It covers the geology, climate, flora and fauna, population, oil resources, and political histories of 19 countries of the Middle East, including the "nontraditional" countries of Libya and Sudan. The maps and charts are particularly helpful, as is the index and bibliographies, which are more illustrative than exhaustive. Most libraries of size and/or depth of collection will, however, find John Paxton's Statesman's Year Book and World Gazeteer (St. Martin's, 1986) already in their collections and more than equal to the task. Furthermore, unless the editors of this title plan annual publications, the data therein will rapidly be outdated.
