Simsoc (pronounced sim-sock)is a unique social process game intended to make social science material more vivid and meaningful. Simsoc -- Simulated Society -- is a way to involve students actively in processes of large-scale conflict, protest, social control, and social change. Simsoc creates a situation in which the participant is led to question the nature of social order.
Included in this Fourth Edition of the Participant's Manual are rules for playing, materials needed for play, study questions based on participation in Simsoc, and selected readings about simulation games and social processes.
Each participant should have a copy of this Participant's Manual. The instructor or coordinator should have a copy of Simsoc: Coordinator's Manual, which contains additional materials needed for play, provides complete directions on how to set up and run Simsoc, and suggests how to handle a variety of situations that might arise.
