From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2-Mug the monster and Blavia the witch spend their lives playing tricks on one another. When their unusual marriage turns boring, they while away the hours, days, and years transforming themselves into outrageous creatures and exchanging elaborate insults. Their game ends when they turn into a human couple, fall in love, and live in a seaside kingdom where they are joined by children and animals. Mug and Blavia's invectives such as "'garbage-guzzling gabberlunzie of a goose'" and "'clothespin-clawed crustacean'" roll off the tongue and produce the humor. Monster and witch are not particularly frightening (or appealing) in their original forms or in any of the shapes they assume. Euvremer's most intriguing illustrations are the landscapes, which clearly establish a mythical setting without needing a word of text in support. The unusual story may be popular around Halloween, given the characters, but it is not tied to that holiday. Instead it offers an offbeat exploration of the power of imagination to enliven relationships, even those based on dirty tricks and insults.
