The pop-up form is a wonderful device for making nonfiction enjoyable to even the most uninvolved reader. Fitzsimons's text is straightforward, and pop-ups on every page show fish with striking markings or elegant fantails and electrifying colors. She discusses those animals that hide near rocky shores, in freshwater or in shallow waters, near beaches. It's a field guide in the best sense; one that will appeal to the armchair reader or someone observing the creatures firsthand. A companion volume, My First Insects, is also available. Ages 5-9.
