PreSchool-K With the voice, vocabulary, and world view of a toddler, this simple picture book draws children into an island picnic for three. Exuberant syncopated rhythm that is almost poetry adds interest; some passages are onomatopoetic. ``Still morning/ seals sunning,/ dip,/ slip ripple/ sea'' describes the row to the island. Hazy, soft drawings in shades of blue and violet are understated, and do not convey the vitality of the text. However, this book portrays a loving family relationship and will be a quiet pleasure to read aloud to the very young. Carolyn Noah, Worcester Public Library, Mass.
