Reviews

Kindergarten-Grade 4 Annie Bananie is moving from the old neighborhood, and there's no doubt she'll be missed. The camaraderie between two girls, about fearless five in age, is delightfully illustrated in bright watercolor and rhyme. A pal who ``made me brush my teeth with mud,/ Sign my name in cockroach blood'' is not found every day. The narrator gives as good as she gets. She recalls scrubbing the freckles off red-headed Annie's face, doctoring her with a ``magic'' potion to shrink her ears, and other horrifically endearing acts of best friends. The story charges forward in couplets that bounce up and down like a kindergarten line on the way to the playground. A daffy, energetic, and heartfelt celebration of friendship.
