Alvin Schwartz is known for his more than two dozen books of folklore for young readers that explore everything from wordplay and humor to tales and legends of all kinds. Don't miss his other Scary Stories collections, including More Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark and Scary Stories 3.
Syd Hoff was born and raised in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design and sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker when he was eighteen. He eventually became one of the most original and beloved authors and illustrators of children's books. Mr. Hoff wrote more than fifty books for children, including the I Can Read titles Danny and the Dinosaur, Oliver, and Sammy the Seal. From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 3-- A collection of 41 folk rhymes, visually interpreted in Hoff's trademark style of humorous watercolor illustration. The "Foreword" and the source note at the end both add simple background information about the rhymes and encourage children to write their own rhymes. Children will appreciate the humor of the rhymes, the rhythms, and the illustrations. Another "I Can Read" hit. --Janie Schomberg, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
