Evonne Weinhaus, MA., is a nationally licensed counselor with a master's degrees in counseling psychology and education. Karen Friedman, ACSW, is a nationally certified clinical social worker. They are the authors of Stop Struggling With Your Teen and have presented their practical approaches to parenting in workshops nationwide. They have been featured in Family Circle and many other national publications, and have appeared on The Today Show, Oprah Winfrey, and Sally Jessy Raphael. The authors are in private practice, and live with their families in St. Louis. From Library Journal:
Weinhaus, a counselor, and Friedman, a clinical social worker, offer practical recommendations for reducing parent/child and child/child conflicts. Based upon the authors' parenting workshops, their approach is anchored in five simple rules: "Don't use your mouth, use your routine; if you can't change the child, change the environment; follow up with follow-through; stay grounded with ground rules; (and) go for negotiation." The authors assert that these guidelines will help children complete tasks on time, encourage independence, build self-esteem, and reduce conflict. Numerous vignettes illustrate successful applications. However, their failure to provide an index or bibliography is a serious omission. Libraries owning Ellen Galinsky's classic The Six Stages of Parenthood (Addison-Wesley, 1987) may skip this.
