Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near fine. First edition. Inscribed by Hay on the title page: "For Carl and Mary Taylor, with all good wishes, John Hay." Possibly the Carl Taylor who was a prominent physician of international health at John Hopkins. "In describing the land and inhabitants of the North Atlantic coastal fringe, John Hay and Peter Farb combine the systematic observations of trained naturalists with the fresh vision of the Pilgrims and Norsemen." Hay was an important naturalist-writer on Cape Cod, and Farb was a prominent naturalist and prolific author, too, especially of nature-related books for a young audience, but he died at only 50. Illustrated map endpapers and black-and-white illustrations by Edward and Marcia Norman. Near fine in blue cloth with faint soiling/sunning to board edges.
