In their quest for cellulite reduction and a sexy self-image, Ellie Simpson, a Dublin nanny, and her three best friends—Maggie, a secretary; Pam, a divorced mother of two; and Toni, a nurse—have tried them all: Atkins, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Cabbage Soup . . . even the Avocado and Rice Krispies Gut-Cleansing Regime! But losing a paltry five pounds seems as difficult for them as finding lasting love, so they decide to form the WWW (Women Watching Weight) Club. Once a week they meet to talk sex, spider veins, and the grim digestive realities of the latest diet craze, while freely indulging in wine, beer, and calorie-packed takeout without the slightest trace of guilt (vowing after their weekly weigh-in to start their diets again tomorrow).
But when the women of the WWW Club agree that the first member to lose seven pounds will win a date set up by the other three, Ellie finds herself facing a dilemma—torn between her loyalty to her best friends and her own deepening feelings for one man who just might be everything she's ever wanted.

Anita Notaro is a TV producer, journalist, and director and worked for RTE, Ireland's national broadcasting organization, for eighteen years. She has directed the Eurovision Song Contest and the Irish General Election, as well as programs for the BBC and Channel 4. She is the author of Back After the Break and Behind the Scenes. The WWW Club marks her U.S. debut.
Woefully inept at both dating and dieting, pals Ellie, Maggie, Pam, and Toni are determined to fight the consequences of a dearth of good men and a wealth of good food. Calling themselves the WWW (Women Watching Weight) Club, these 30-ish Dublin lasses band together for evenings of healthy food, vigorous exercise, and motivating weigh-ins. Or at least that's the theory. Their meetings usually devolve into pity parties to bemoan Ellie's demeaning job as a daycare worker, Maggie's lackluster relationship with a stodgy accountant, Pam's anxiety over her ex-husband's long-distance relationship with their sons, and the challenges Toni faces as a young, attractive nurse in a retirement home of stodgy octogenarians. Their friendships, and diets, are sorely tested when Ellie begins working for a sensitive (and sexy) single father of two precocious girls, and Toni starts dating the wealthy (and married) son of one of her patients. As vulnerable as they are vivacious, Notaro's zaftig heroines bring a new zaniness to the chick-lit genre. Carol Haggas
