BERNICE BOBS HER HAIR: When boring Bernice visits her extended family, her glamorous cousin Marjorie desides to make her over, if only to keep her from being a drag on her social life. The transformation is successful and Bernice becomes popular with all the local boys, including Marjorie's beau, Warren. And Marjorie isn't going to stand for that.
"Bernice Bob Her Hair," holds an important place in Fitzgerald work as an early examination of theme of competition for social success: especially among young women.

F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. Upon graduating from Princeton, he served in the Army and worked briefly in advertising. He married his wife, Zelda, in 1920, a week after his first novel, This Side of Paradise, was published. His works, considered by many to be classics, include The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night, and the uncompleted The Last Tycoon. He died of a heart attack at the age of 44.
Blythe Danner, a Tony® winner, has starred in numerous Broadway productions, and in such films as Meet the Parents, The Great Santini, and The Prince of Tides; she played Zelda Fitzgerald in the telefilm, F. Scott Fitzgerald and "The Last of the Belles."From AudioFile:
This story was written by a man, but it is surely a woman's story, with its feminine battle over the significance of a hairstyle. Hearing the story is a fine way to truly understand Fitzgerald's gift for writing dialogue. Blythe Danner gives a stellar performance as the narrator and voice of its several characters. Danner is uncanny in her ability to modify her tone and pronunciation to perfectly portray the worldly Marjorie and her anxious-to-please country cousin, Bernice. The listener's only complaint is that the story takes only an hour to tell, not only for the power of Fitzgerald's storytelling but also for the sheer pleasure of enjoying Danner's lovely voice.
