This new history parallels the two-volume Encyclopedia of Major League Baseball Teams , edited by Peter C. Bjarkman ( LJ 2/15/91). However, Dewey and Acocella, authors of The All-Time All-Star Baseball Book ( LJ 3/1/92), include the teams from the six other leagues that rivaled the National and American circuits during professional baseball's early years. They also include, albeit briefly, the new expansion teams, the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins. Although Bjarkman's earlier set contains bibliographies and more statistical information, this work is spiced with appealing anecdotal sidebars, photographs, and frequent humorous touches. Comprehensive sports shelves should add.
