Parents needing a map to travel the Internet highway will grab this nifty book, which is designed to help them make sense of what's available online for their children. Information on pricing may already be out of date, and online offerings for the 9-to 14-year-old age group targeted here will certainly have expanded by the time this book hits the shelves, but there's still lots of helpful information--from hints about computer shopping and overviews of some of the major commercial online services to an introduction to the Internet, complete with addresses. The discussion also includes a little about netiquette and some handy safety tips parents will want to pass on to their kids. Because the offerings listed are organized according to kids' key interests--sports, music, crafts, movies, pets, etc.--then subdivided by service provider, the book is a snap to use, and the Schepps, who are parents as well as old pros online, use a special symbol to designate the places best left to older (13-and 14-year-old) cybernauts. Great for getting families started smoothly on their cyberspace journey. Stephanie Zvirin
