Everybody needs a friend...

Edward Small might not be very good at schoolwork or at baseball or be very popular, but he has a truly amazing best friend: an enormous Allosaurus named Alexander who obeys Edward's every command and can crunch Edward's enemies in a heartbeat. There is no place Edward is happier than on the bank of the tar pit where his fantastical friend lives -- but little does he know that something remarkably real is about to emerge from the tarry depths and change his life forever.

About the Author:

Born in Littleton, New Hampshire, Tor Seidler grew up in Vermont and later, Seattle, Washington, in both of which places his parents were involved in the theater. Encouraged by his family's love of the arts, Mr. Seidler studied English literature at Stanford University, and at the age of twenty-seven his first book, The Dulcimer Boy, was published, launching his celebrated career as a writer.

Over the past twenty years, Mr. Seidler has become one of the most important voices in children's fiction with such classics as, A Rat's Tale, The Wainscott Weasel, an ALA Notable Book, Terpin, and Mean Margaret, which was selected as a finalist for the National Book Award in 1997. He currently lives in New York City.

From Publishers Weekly:

According to PW , "This is a thoughtful, well-constructed novel of a boy leading a life of quiet desperation. He is empowered . . . by locating his own compassionate core that allows him, and those around him, to be human." Ages 10-up.
