The Dallas Titans have just won a big game. Although the players are not ready yet, Coach Scorch says they must go to bed. So the team gets to work taking off their shoulder pads, T-shirts, socks, and the rest of their football gear.

Grade 1-3 Kuskin and Simont have revived the format they used in their highly acclaimed The Philharmonic Gets Dressed (Harper, 1982) in this enjoyable picture book centered around the post-game doings of an imaginary football team. The story begins after a big game is finished and traces the team's every action in meticulous and hilarious detail until they retire for the night. The locker room ritual is delightfully entertaining as each player's antics are accounted for. While humor is interspersed throughout, children will also pick up a large amount of factual information, including the duties of the various position players and the types and purposes of the massive amounts of equipment that football players wear. There are some minor discrepancies between text and illustrations, but Simont's pastels, dominated by pink and greens, fit in perfectly with the mood of Kuskin's writing. His depiction of the various players on the team is especially amusing. This is a book to delight youngsters whether or not they have an interest in sports. Tom S.
