Gattozzi, a psychologist and the parent of a child with "minimal brain dysfunction" (one of the many diagnostic labels for children who are behaviorally damaged by a neurological imbalance), offers practical and emotional support to parents of these troubled and troublesome youngsters. By stressing physiological rather than psychological causes the author relieves guilt so that parents can better direct their attention to the use of developmental checklists, sensory-perceptual exercises, and techniques for managing anger, diet, home atmosphere, and school. The text vividly conveys the ordeals of conflicted parents (some criminally abusive), but it's the "reclamation" stories of young adults that astound. A glossary is included.
