Thomas Martinez with John Gunther, Brotherhood of Murder: How One Man's Journey Through Fear Brought the Order--the Most Dangerous Racist Gang in America--to Justice
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Arrested for passing counterfeit money, Martinez alerted the FBI to the existence of "The Order," a fanatical neo-Nazi gang that murdered talk show host Alan Berg (see Stephen Singular's Talked to Death, LJ 4/1/87) and stole $4 million dollars. Martinez, a friend of Order leader Robert Mathews (who later died in a shoot-out), helped police capture and convict the gang. Despite plots on his life, Martinez declined the anonymity of the Witness Protection Program. Instead, he lectures on the dangers of the ultra right-wing groups he once championed. A dramatic, personal story about hate and redemption, the poison of racism and anti-Semitism. Recommended. Gregor A. Preston, Univ. of California Lib., Davis
