From the Back Cover:

. No longer a futuristic fantasy, on-the-fly wireless networks are one of today's major developments in communications. Built anywhere, under almost any conditions, these temporary self-organizing systems of cooperating nodes feature a dynamic, decentralized topology and true mobility for users. Mobile Ad Hoc Networking shows you how to design and deploy them..

. Written by an international expert and decade-long contributor to the technical standard, Mobile Ad Hoc Networking gives you a detailed, nuts-and-bolts tutorial on the design and integration of communications nets for locations and situations where putting up a permanent installation is not possible or practical. Packed with technical expertise you won't find in any other source, George Aggelou's guide shows you how to get temporary wireless networks (MANETs) up and running smoothly..

. A GROUNDBREAKING GUIDE TO OVER-THE-AIR NETWORKS. Mobile Ad Hoc Networks provides all the help you need to:.

  • Create instant wireless networks for conventions, conferences, emergency situations, educational or military uses, and more.
  • Build wireless community networks where little or no infrastructure exists.
  • Integrate wireless multihop relaying technologies with existing wireless LAN technologies.
  • Deliver QoS for multimedia and other functions in untethered nets.
  • Translate the IETF MANET standards into practical terms.
  • Find essential answers on antennas and other equipment.
  • Integrated wireless multihop relaying concepts with GSM.
  • See how wireless routing protocols work in the wild, away from the ideal world of simulators.
  • Show the way towards third generation systems and beyond.
  • Be ready for 4G wireless

. Background on Wireless Ad Hoc Networks * Commercial Usage and Characteristics * Technical and Research Challenges * Dynamic Routing * Mobile Multimedia Communication Systems * QoS Based Routing for Mobile Multimedia Ad Hoc Networks * Third Generation Communications Systems and Beyond * Multihop Relaying Paves the Way to 4G Communications Systems Bibliography * Glossary * Terminology.

About the Author:

George Aggelou is a professor of electronic engineering at the Institute of Technology, Greece and the Director of G-Alpha Telecomms, consultants who build next-generation networks for enterprises and industry. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Surrey. His doctoral research, which was fully sponsored from Lucent Technologies, Middlesex, UK, was on wireless ad hoc and third generation (3G) mobile networks. Prof. Aggelou has been actively involved in standardization efforts for wireless mobile networking for nearly 10 years, first as a researcher at IBM, T.J. Watson Research Center, in New York and later as Team Leader at Cisco in London. He is the cofounder of Mobile E-commerce Technologies Ltd., London. Prof. Aggelou is the recipient of the U.K. Prize for Research of Excellence 2000 for his research innovations on Mobile Ad Hoc Networking. Prof. Aggelou is an active participant in several IEEE technical committees and activities. He has served on the Grants Committee (UGC) of Hong Kong. He is also a member of the Research Grants Evaluation Committee (FP5 And FP6) of the European Union. . .
