From the Author:

As Mark Twain said:  "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover."THERE ARE NO GOOD REASONS NOT TO TRY SAILING.I wrote this book because I believe there is no reason not to try sailing, and, properly instructed, it is easier and safer than driving, and far more fun and less expensive.  If you are presently land-locked, imagine driving a convertible in any direction you choose, for as long as you choose, with whomever you choose to be with.  Add to that the ability to sleep and live aboard, and you have yourself the time of your life. The difficulties of learning are addressed with the careful organization of the book.  I spent a full six years! organizing and re-organizing the book which was first written in May of 2010. Finally, in the summer of 2016 my editors (there were several) and I were convinced we had it right, so that sailing could be learned just from reading the book.
The usual concerns of someone considering sailing start with the cost, but you can get a ride for free or nearly no expense by various means, all legal and fair.  Another concern is seasickness, but there are cures for that.  It is quite nearly impossible to drown from a sailboat if you wear a life jacket (but call it a PFD when you are in a boating supply store).  Those concerns, and other safety issues are addressed in the first chapter. The organization of the book brings together in a seven day format all you will need to become a real sailor by the end of the week.  On Day One, starting with safety concerns, and a safe boat (yes, you should have an experienced sailor check out your boat, but if not, the book instructs you how to do so) the first chapter is designed to get you out on the water safely, and return to the harbor, covering just the basics in fair weather. In Day Two, and thereafter, additional skills are taught, Yes, within a week you can be a real sailor, having learned tacking, jibing, sail trim, steering, navigation, chart reading, night sailing and much more.Your adventure is yours to discover.

From the Back Cover:

THE INSTANT GUIDE TO SAILING--JUST ADD WATERIf you've ever dreamed of sailing your own boat, this must-have manual for beginners will get you on board, in the water, and up to speed faster than you ever thought possible.  Filled with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow illustrations, Learn To Sail Today makes it so simple and clear, you'll be able to sail a boat safely by the end of the first chapter....
